The sound of your voice, the choice of your words, the look in your eyes, the depth of your breath—your entire body speaks of what is alive within you: your feelings.
You can try to suppress or ignore your feelings, but they do not disappear; you merely suppress your vitality.
We all experience the same feelings. This common ground makes them the universal language of life.
We can learn them, similar to how babies learn the language of their parents: Initially, they recognize that language has meaning. Then they try it themselves with cries and coos, then babbling, then single words, and eventually, they speak fluently.
Learning the language of feelings means becoming aware of your own inner states. This ability fosters deep understanding and can transform aversion and hatred in relationships. It can heal wounds and is the basis for inner and outer peace.
All feelings are valid. Every action plants a seed for new feelings. For example, we might strike a punching bag or a living being in our anger. What we sow, we reap.
Other people or events can trigger our feelings, but they are not their cause. Feelings are expressions of inner states and experiences. No one but ourselves can take responsibility for them.
